Choose one of the following topics and write a five-paragraph literary essay. Be sure to establish a good thesis statement before beginning the rest of the writing process. Remember: do not simply answer the topic as if it was a question. Establish the thesis and prove it with information from the play. You will be required to use three quotations in your essay to help prove your point. A good rule of thumb is to include one quotation in each body paragraph of your essay.

1. Compare and contrast the characters of Hamlet, Laertes, and Fortinbras in their quests for Revenge.
2. At times many modern people share Hamlets disgust with a world that seems corrupt and out of joint.
3. How is the theme of corruption shown the play?
4. Analyze Polonius character to determine whether or not he deserved to die as he did. Hamlets flaw is that he fails to act on instinct he thinks too much.
5. Discuss the importance of Appearance versus Reality in Hamlet
