Compare/Contrast flawed heroes: In Luke 15, Jesus tells the parable of The Prodigal Son. In 1835, Nathaniel Hawthorne writes Young Goodman Brown, and in 2017, Nicole Flattery writes Track. In all three pieces, our narrators craft a story about flawed heroes either finding their path to redemption, navigating personal and spiritual beliefs, or not finding a positive redemption whatsoever. Some fail more than others, but all have arcs that reveal a lot about who they are, and who we are as well. In recent years, it can be argued we have become consumed with the idea of anti-heroes and villains. Use these three stories as well as refer to any other stories from this past semester to examine their ideas of heroism. Make an argument on how each flawed hero takes a deeper look at our own trappings, and which example does more to comment on the hardships and conflicts that can exist within generations.
