Strategic planning is useful for directing various types of organizations including health care. Strategic planning is utilized by organizations to identify goals and develop strategies to achieve organizational goals. The purpose of strategic planning in a health care environment is to align an organizations actions with its stated mission (Regis College, 2018). Strategic planning in health care involves being proactive to reach a goal, instead of addressing issues as they arise.
Most health care organizations create plans to prepare for issues that may affect their facility in the future. Some factors that affect future planning in an organization include budgeting, staff expertise, and level of care provided (Grand Canyon University, 2018). It is important to understand how an organization operates to create effective strategic plans for an entire health care system to be successful.
Some tools that can be utilized for future planning include an analysis of strengths, weaknesses, opportunities, and threats (SWOT). Utilizing a SWOT analysis can help organizations to identify weaknesses and strengths. Identifying weaknesses and strengths can be useful in making decisions, planning, and understanding an organizations direction (Grand Canyon University, 2018).
