Rampart CRASH Unit Article Review:
After reading the article about the Rampart CRASH Unit, the scandal affected the LAPD in a lot of different ways. It appears that the LAPD has a lot of officers that are involved in illegal activity and are corrupted. With the amount of corruption within the department, it hurt the relationship between the department and the community. The relationship between the community and police is important because majority of the time, the police cannot solve a crime or close an active case without the help of the community. While reading the article, there was a bank robbery that took place and it involved a police officer and his girlfriend who was the bank manager. In my opinion, it appears that these officers within the LAPD wanted to become officers just to abuse their badge and power. The actions of the officers were so bad that the City Council voted to have the U.S. Department of Justice to oversee the reform of the department for a period of five years. Having the Department of Justice come into a department to basically take it over and oversee the reform of the department is not a good look for the city or agency.
